There was little musical activity from The Cowsills during the '70s, although the "core four" (Bob, Susan, Paul & John) recorded 16 original songs with producer Chuck Plotkin in the late '70s. Alas, the disco years were not kind to mainstream pop; the tracks were 10/10(1).
· "The Rain, the Park and Other Things" is a song completely full of magic, so it might suggest that The Cowsills might be a high quality album. And it is. I have owned and liked Captain Sad and His Ship of Fools () for some time, so I was expecting another album with very well written but virtually unknown songs in between the more 'famous' songs. I like "Pennies", "Gettin' Into That Sunny /5(7).
The Cowsills Review. by Bruce Eder. [+] Featuring "The Rain, the Park, and Other Things," this debut album by the Cowsills really isn't half-bad mainstream late-'60s pop, with a heavy Mamas & the Papas fixation. It's not nearly as good as the Mamas & the Papas, of course, and doesn't stand up to in-depth listening -- nor are they saying.
